Tom Lubbe, founder of Domaine Matassa, is a real cult icon in the world of natural wine.

A New Zealand native, Tom was one of the pioneers of the South African wine revolution that has taken place over the last couple of decades. His low-intervention approach flew in the face of the conventional wineries of South Africa that dominated the wine scene. His fascinating wines helped spawn a generation of exciting new producers across the country. After he met his wife Nathalie during working vintage at the great Domaine Gauby, Tom decided to stay in France and launch Domaine Matassa. His wines are now adored the world over. These are old-vine meticulously farmed wines that offer a unique, unadulterated sense of place. Some of the most hunted natural wines in the world today.
Grapes: Carignan, Mourvedre
Cloudy strawberry red, almost rose in colour. The 2020 Rollaball conveys pure freshness - red and black currants, rhubarb, sloe and lots of cool stony notes, rosehip, rosemary, thyme, juniper and white pepper.
Mambo Sun
Grapes: Grenache Noir, Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc, Macabeu
Wild, untamed fruit flavours tilt dark-wards too, with blackberry and blackcurrant and some dark cherry notes. Light in body. Could be served chilled.
Ace of Spades
Grapes: Carignan, Mourvedre
Ace of Spades refers to the dark black soils of the Les Myrs vineyard high in the rocky Roussillon hills where these old vines grow. Meaty, gamey, dark fruited and autumnal it's a vibrant but raw natural red full of energy and drive.
